You can link to other registries (like Amazon), link to specific items you find online, or just type in descriptions. I do like the trend of donating gifts to charity at parties though, and I hope it keeps growing as my son gets older.

lots of friends and family have asked if i need anything in particular for ds2 - theyre more confused about what to buy a second incase ive got stuff from ds1. so i have written a list of NEW BABY ESSENTIALS and done an online list at www.whattogive.com - this way anyone can access the list, see what you need and offer to get it. so much easier. i do this for ds1's birthday and xmas lists too as people always ask what he wants/needs and i can never think off the top of my head. some people may think its cheeky, but if people ask you anyway, then at least they can buy something worthwhile, im the sort of person who would rather know what gift someone would like. I hope you find this useful, i have and been using this site for 2 years (i first discovered it when some friends used it for their wedding list). BTW, ITS TOTALLY FREE!!! x

I have looked at the confetti wishlist, but didn't really understand what it was trying to do as it seems like a credit card in disguise. Our wedding list is with www.whattogive.com you put what ever you want on it. People can also give you money through it.
Our guests have commented on how easy it is to use.

Does anyone do one that includes food & drink?
I'm thinking of cases of beer, cases of wine, cakes, canapes, anything really
We are having our 'non-planned' wedding reception in my mum's garden bbq style and want the guests to bring their own food & drink - we don't need a breville toaster or a 12 tog duvet - the spontaneity of cooking on the hoof (maybe a chef's rota) will make it fun plus it will save us money & allow us to spend our own hard earned on our honeymoon!

we used www.whattogive.co.uk - we had a mixture of donations, gifts, and charity gifts. it's free, it just congregates everything together for you. it was dead easy (even mrgazpacho's grandparents, who didn't know what the internet was, managed with a little help), everyone commented on how good it was, and we ended up with two alpacas, 100 school dinners, a donkey, and a small child, so it was obviously successful.

I am trying to decide which guest list to use at the moment.
Further to my recent post asking you all if you have any recommendations for gift lists - I thought I would ask what you thought of the 'what to give' gift list? Has anybody used it and how did they get on with it? I have been living with my fiance for years so already have lots of house stuff, but are going to be building a house together so would like money towards construction material, the boiler, bath, slates, blocks etc. We could even ask our guests for a day of help painting or something on it I think?

Thanks for letting me see your gift list. It is really good. I did not realise you could personalise the site so much with your photo and put on maps and things on the site. I think I am pretty much sold on the gift list. I believe that it is one of the cheapest gift lists available and the use of Paypal for money to be given to funds is cheaper than options like Confetti?

We had one too - type in ***** ***** if you want to see ours. The photos were taken from Websites so a lot have disappeared since we made the list.
I thought it was really good.
We also had a small Debenhams list as they give you £50 for doing one there.

We didn't want to use Debenhams/John Lewis etc because why should our guests pay £20 per towel when they can get them elsewhere, just as nice for half the price or less?
Plus we had bad customer service when we went to Debenhams, so we decided to find something that stated what we would like, should guests like to buy us a gift, and meant that the guest could "cross it off" the list so other guests didn't get the same thing, but at the same time, buy the gift whereever they chose depending on their budget, or where they lived or whatever.
So we've used www.whattogive.com and I couldn't recommend the service more. With just over 2 weeks to go, I am SO glad we went with them. It's free to use, and really really works. People can log onto the list online, and set the gift as "promised" and then bring the gift on the day, or send it normally. For those without internet access, I gave them my Mum's telephone number and she gave information out over the phone and then promsied on their behalf.

I'm overwhelmed by the amount of wedding gift list services there are. Which one did you use and was it any good? My cousin who is getting married in 3 months time has used the John Lewis one but the gifts on there look very expensive. I don't want my guests to feel pressured into buying an expensive gift.
Having said that I already have a house with everything I need in it. So do I need a wedding gift list? Are there any companies which do gift lists based on holidays? i.e. do Thomas Cook do one?
We're using http://www.whattogive.com it's internet based so it's easy to fill in and it's really flexible because you put anything you like from any shop on :-)

Does anyone know of a wedding list service where you can specify items from different retailers? I have found some which use different specified 'suppliers' but none where you can just pick the items and put a link onto a list - am I looking for something which doesn't exist? If so, would anyone out there like to help me leave my job and start running it? ;-)

We're doing our gist list with whattogive. We've got it linked from our wedding path site with a reminder to people to mark the item as promised if they want to get it as it prevents duplications.
I was the same as you. Debenhams I find too expensive for what you get and wanted to be able to incorporate things from other shops as We already have most things we need.
we will have one at debenhams and also a list on www.whattogive.com i didnt want our guests to be tied to stuff from debenhams (i'm worried they will think we're asking for too much so we're having some dvd's and stuff on the what to give list)

There was a post on here not long ago with a link to a gift list site where overall, the person is giving money but you list different aspects of what the money is for. Eg: Parts of a car or a hotel room for the night.

it's free cause all they do is show your list , they dont take payment order anything deliver anything etc etc it's literally just showing people ur list..
they have an thing on there where if you want you can contribute to the website to help keep it going

If you want to skip paying a fee try www.whattogive.com Same principle whereby you set up a virtual list of things to do on honeymoon and people can promise you it as a gift. You get an email which they can personalise with a message and then send you a cheque. They can also pay by paypal but that means paypal taking their fee so we have opted now just for cheque payment. Everyone has really loved it and have been excited about what they have bought us. We will also use the photos to send out as thank you cards. So far we have been given abut £800 in gifts which has been a right help in paying for the honeymoon, x
